Battle of Britain and Bomber Command
About The Website
This website I have designed to be different to the run of the mill websites, with a visual theme throughout that uses the buttons and clothing of the services involved. Click the buttons and rank chevrons to navigate ! Each click takes you to a deeper level indicated at right, with more detailed choices based on the subject clicked.
Also, unlike other websites so far, it uses the highly skilled artform of high end scale modelling to portray IN LARGE SCREEN FORMAT, (so mobile phone users please use a PC), the aircraft, vehicles, figures and even some marine craft associated with the Battle of Britain and Bomber Command of WW2. It also provides visual references of equipment used by those involved, to assist modellers, collectors and artists. Again where possible the best Hi Res photos are used.
It shows ACCURATE COMPLETE markings so if you don’t like Swastikas don’t look at the German aircraft ! It is a historical site, non political, obvious to anyone anyway is that !
The result of careful correct depth of field (in focus from near to far) and lighting methods using bounce flash or daylight, using a dSLR camera (in my case), over many decades. Only the most accurate models both in shape and colour are chosen. With in-depth knowledge of the actual paint colours used at the time, many models that have incorrect paint colours are passed by, as the aim is to show THE CORRECT APPEARANCE as opposed to just any model. With Eduard having got all their Me109E tails wrong its been a tough decision to exclude them, so a separate page exists where they were too good otherwise to dismiss. If you think you can meet these photographic standards and that your photos, not necessarily your own models, meet the strict criteria, drop me an email. Where a model has yet to be seen meeting these standards, there will be no photo.
I am a Battle of Britain historian and the UK expert on RAF Ground Equipment of WW2. Studying Chain Home, Anti Aircraft , Ops Rooms, Me109E units Staffel by Staffel, with an in depth knowledge also on service dress and flying kit, and a honed eye for detail and shape. Available for advice to documentary and movie makers as well as restorers. I am specialising in the Spitfire Mk I and Messerschmitt Bf109E, knowing every rivet. Ju88 and Do17Z cockpits also a speciality. I supplied full data for the Instrument Panel and some other features of the cockpit of P9374, the first flying Spitfire Mk I (not Guy Martins which was the second ! ) and did all the CAD work and artwork for the full size ACCURATE (where involved) replica Me109E yellow 6. (now at Blackpool Airport Hangar 42 museum). I am proud to see the end results. The correct shape of the Me109E cowling, which seems to escape everyone, is also a speciality.
Flight sim button, uses IL2 Cliffs of Dover to capture the Battle of Britain in accurate colour, the version before v5 where cockpit glazing then went electric blue aura aka Harry Potter and un-realistic. Luftwaffe colours developed by myself after months of testing and re-testing, to correct the incorrect ones from the sim.
Other..A chance to air gripes about things that shouldn’t be, and show off non Battle of Britain models of friends.
Pages of Links to events, museums, collectors , kits etc. To try and remove the mystery of where rare items can be seen.
